Island Continent Studio

This is the blog for my new design studio Island Continent which is set to launch in February specialising in all things fashion, design, art and Oz. After a solid and successful 8 years, working for some incredible dream clients, awards in NY and Cannes, breaking into the US Editorial market and fulfilling my childhood dream of illustrating for USA Rolling Stone, it's time for a kit-kat and a well earned good nights sleep. So I am scaling back my illustration commissions for 2012 and only taking on special projects for the immediate future. To keep up with all the action follow the tumblr for Island Continent where my 30 years of Archives will be unleashed in full technicolor glory. <3 http://www.islandcontinent.com.au/

VCE STUDIO ARTS EXAM 2010

Something different. One of my artworks was referenced for questions on last years VCE Studio Arts Exam paper here in Victoria Australia. Takes me back to those uncomfortable plastic chairs and cold dusty exam rooms of Year 12. How strange life is.

'LIFE' Exhibition East Gallery London

I'm super excited to be a part of this incredible show in London of Australian Artists. And was lucky enough to have part of my piece for the show featured on the flyer. Anyone in London on the 1st of July head down to East Gallery, proceeds from sales going to RED,  a good cause. Thanks to Jimmy from Heaps Good. Details on the show below. And a special preview of my piece closer to the show's opening.

Life
is the debut UK exhibition curated by Heaps Good, showcasing 19 of Australia’s leading emerging and established artists with the aim of raising funds and awareness for (RED).

On show between 1st – 6th July at
East Gallery, London – this groundbreaking exhibition features work from artists:
JEREMYVILLE / WE BUY YOUR KIDS / JONATHAN ZAWADA / REG MOMBASSA / EAMO DONNELLY / KAREENA ZEREFOS / TIMBA SMITS / SARAH LARNACH / LILLY PIRI / BEN BROWN / RILLA ALEXANDER / ALTER / BEASTMAN / JAMES GULLIVER / NUMSKULL / KATE BANAZI / EXPIALIDOCIOUS / JAMES KAPE / JAMES MCNAMARA.

This diverse group covers a wide range of Australian visual creativity and even brings in some old faces of uniquely important aesthetics from Australia.
Each artist has created a two-colour screen printed poster (one colour being red) to the theme of ‘Life’. Heaps Good aim to raise awareness and funds for (RED). (RED) works with the world’s most iconic brands to make unique product items, giving up to 50 percent of their profits to invest in HIV and AIDS programs. LOVE LUST AND LIES ABC 8:30 THURSDAY 30TH SEP

An incredible conclusion to a 35 year documentary series in the vein of Michael Apted's '7UP' by Gillian Armstrong. 'Love Lust & Lies' screens for the first time on ABC1, Thursday 30th of September at 8:30. It is must see television.

I first stumbled across the third in the series 'Bingo, Bridesmaids and Braces' in 2003 deep in the archives of the ACMI's lending collection and instantly fell in love with the concept and the subjects, subsequently tracking down all in the series except the original 'Smokes and Lollies' 1975 which only seems to exist on 16mm.

Gillian Armstrong must be commended for taking on this incredible journey with these girls, it's a treasure that something like this was undertaken and I hope that the journey continues.
Do not miss this one (if you do it's out on DVD Oct 6)
