TONY BARTUCCIO SPORTING MY TEE

Tony Bartuccio and his famous dancers where a staple of all channel 9 productions back in the 80s. Any act appearing on the Done Lane Show or Mike Walsh was always accompanied by the high kicks of these leggy baby boomers in leotards and heels. Last night on a local football show Tony Bart was seen sporting one of my Tee's for the Australian streetwear brand Suburban after his choreographed spectacular featuring a bloke in leather hanging off elastics across the audience with exposed butt cheeks. Definitely one to tell the grand kids.

ROYAL MELBOURNE SHOW!

On Sunday I ventured to the Royal Melbourne Show to do a review for threethousand.com.au The Polaroid camera got a workout that day!

Dagwood dogs dripping with dead 'orse, hot chips, fairy floss in buckets, ghost trains with that don't-talk-to-strangers kind of feeling, mullets, winny reds and skinny jeans, wood chopping and pig diving, whingeing scally wags, spending an entire year's worth of pocket money on showbags. Cooee it can only mean one thing, the Royal Melbourne Show has rolled into town for it's 154th year, giving us slickers a taste of the rool Australia.

But is the Big Pie still casting a watchful dog's eye over the crowds? To my relief it's still there, in all its piping-hot, pastry glory. Not much has changed from when I was a young bubba with Humphrey showbag in hand, squealing to avoid a traumatic ride on the baby Ferris Wheel, although this time Humphrey was updated with the $10 Gag Magic bag.

All the classic rides are still there - with gaudy airbrush art to rival Howard Arkley's 'Nick Cave' and updated names like 'Freestyle', 'Breakdance' and the Euro-less 'EuroSlide'. But let's face it, Showbags are the real reason we catch the special train from North Melbourne every September. In the words of Russell Gilbert "I WANT A BER
TIE BEETLE!"

SKIPPY, RUBBER BANDS, HESSIAN SACKS, UP SKIRTING & FRANK THRING

Tonight on the ABC at 8:30 don't miss the Skippy - Australia's First Superstar. Whilst we all grew up on this wholesome, nationalistic, local version of Flipper, not many of us know the secrets to Skippy's abnormally human-like movements, communications with bush butterball Sonny using 'tut tut tut's' and the crime fighting skills to rival the Piranha taskforce. With the ingenious use of peanut butter and fishing line to coax Mr Ed into an utterly convincing conversation with Wilbur, the producers of Skippy used similar technique's like rubber bands and chewing gum for him to much on and his dressing room was a hessian sack, which guest star Frank Thring quipped "If that's the stars dressing room, then what do I get?" One is also reminded of the 90s reinvention of Skippy on Fast Forward. Youtube away Skip!

"MILKBARS, LAUNDROMATS & URBAN BEAUTY" PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

As my milkbar polaroid collection grows bigger by the week along comes this beaut exhibition of photographs by Natalie Jeffcott, Gemma Jones, Miikel Doomernik and a selection of my said polaroids, as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival. I think I'm more excited to be in this show than any other as the subject of Milkbars gets me all hot and bothered like a mum taking ice cream orders for all the kids at the front beach kiosk, on bitchumen and in bare feet.
Showing at Arthus Circus opening night Tuesday 22 September from 6 - 8pm.

Last few Stubby Holder's on Ebay - only 7 left!

The limited edition of 50 stubby holders is down to 7 and I'd love to send them off to a good beer drinking home ready for this summer so I've put them up on ebay this week. Buy it now $15 plus $5 postage anywhere in Oz. They're getting thirsty! I'll be posting some other items like limited edition prints and some left over Aussie Map Clocks on ebay later this week.

ACADEMY FOR MEN - Behind the scenes Photoshoot

Over the weekend the awesome Academy For Men founder, editor Rhys Ripper and photographer extraordinaire Trevor King, Monique and I took a trip out to Oak park in Melbourne's West to do a shoot for the next issue of Academy For Men. Courtesy of Monique and her 80s stomping ground, we found this abandoned Milk Bar for the location. Here's some behind the scene's shots of us acting all aussie and bogan complete with muscle car, bicentenary Esky and ugg boots.
